2. Packaging

Kyosho always does a good job organizing the parts. Argh, but what's with the non-hex screws!

3. Instructions

I always love the Kyosho instructions. I've run their kits since the early 80's and they had easy-to-read manuals then and they still do today. Notice, these show that the kit uses no C-clips!

4. Gearing

The ZX5 uses two ball differentials in the front and rear and comes with an optional solid front or front one-way differential. I built the standard diffs.

5. Drive

Instead of a center differential, the ZX5 has an easy-to-adjust slipper and is shaft driven. The drive shaft can be solid or spool, depending on your front axle preferences.

6. Rear

Ugh...doggies in the rear! Although they work fine, I don't feel like combing the track for the lost dogbone if an A-arm busts. I'm swapping that out for the 65.6mm Universal shafts. The front end includes the 68mm universals.

7. Twin-cap Pro Shocks

Here's my favorite part of this kit: the shocks. They are twin-cap alloy shocks. I've never seen an easier shock setup for loading with oil.

These shocks are so smooth it's not even funny.

9. Electronics

For electronics I'm using RacedayRC.com 3800 cells (not shown), Epic Shock 10x2 motor, Novak GTX ESC, Futaba FM R123F receiver, and Futaba S9402 servo.

A. Electronics

Here's another shot of the electronics. There isn't much room for messing around so use small gear to keep everything clean.

B. EPIC 10x2 Motor

Here's a close up of the specs on the Epic 10x2 motor. This motor is beautiful. Don't forget to adjust the timing for 4wd offroad racing according to the instructions.

C. Rear Setup

The stock configuration is extremely twitchy to drive on our indoor track. I'm still messing around with setup. The only tires that are working right now for anyone in the 4wd class are the Losi Pink taper pins up front and Losi Pink X-2000 in the rear. I'll post more on the setup once we figure it out.

D. Front Setup

Because our indoor track is a tad bumpy I've installed the 10degree front hub carriers to help absorb the oncomming bumps. This takes a little bit away from the steering but it's well worth it in order to keep the car planted at the high speeds. There are so many ways to increase steering as well.
